Dear Reader,
How are you feeling about this AI craze? It seems like you can get some version of AI to do just about anything for you these days. The government is probably annoyed at the tech and marketing industries for moving so fast because they're scrambling to create new regulations.
I like that they're doing so, but it is hard to keep up with isn't it? Or do you, dear reader, have special sources and good systems in place to keep you from getting distracted? Please share with me if you do!
Let me spare you the conference and travel fees by sharing some of my key marketing takeaways from one of my trusted AI information sources. As much fun as all these conferences are, I'm not encouraging anyone to do more than their body can handle. So without further ado, Let's get into my visual story of the event.
Welcome to our favorite marketing conference!
Between the camaraderie of the community we've cultivated over several years, to the well thought out content curated for the event, I trust this experience to give me some of the most worthwhile business growth ideas to ponder.
I love that Jake and I still find this conference a worthwhile business expense, even as independent business owners.
It's fun to figure out how to work together in a way that works for both our strong, stubborn, and loud personalities.
Marketing Takeaway #1
I am fully inspired to create at least as much as I consume. I think each person has to decide for themselves what this balance looks like for them.
I believe learning and engaging with other people online helps bring that energy back around to you. Finding your inner creatress/creator helps you find your purpose in the communities you're a part of. Lean into those communities that help you thrive in life.
"You don't need to have it all together, because together we can have it all" ~ Wookiefoot
Takeaway #2
Liz Germain had some good ideas for monetizing your YouTube channel.
Share long form educational or fun videos people want to watch instead of some other streaming service.
Think about it. Would you rather give your money to Netflix or some other small YouTube creator that was making entertaining content?
Highlights
Series videos are great.
Always test your thumbnail designs (HINT: simple is better)
Audience Analytics is coming to the platform so it'll be easier than ever to check your YouTube Analytics specifically.
Takeaway #3
It doesn't matter how often you post. What matters is that you do it consistently. Find the rhythm that works for you and be open to changes. And do not be afraid of saying no to things that aren't best for your progress, no matter how cool they look.
We call that shiny object syndrome, and I get through it by having a place to dump all the things that look cool but don't necessarily help me focus on what I need to now. That way it's out of my headspace and in a place I know where to find it when the timing is better.
My goal is to send a newsletter monthly, and post 1-3 times a week. (I'll challenge myself extra to post once a day).
Takeaway #4
Keep business simple. One offer - one business. That doesn't mean you can't have entry point low cost or even free offers that ideally lead to your core offer.
Even so, keep it as simple as you can. Taking a mindful approach to which offers are necessary for your success helps not get overwhelmed by all the things you could do.
Break Time - Vegas sunset
I had to run back to the room in one of the breaks and I caught the perfect moment. Sometimes, it's worth being a little late to the next session. 🤙🏻😅
Takeaway #5
Yes, I know I'm missing #3 from this presentation.
Did YOU notice the consistency theme in this one?
"Sometimes you just might find that you get what you need" ~Rolling Stones
Takeaway #6
They used to call this the "Wicked Smaht Panel" and now they call it "what's working now." Which do you like better? The second is definitely more clear about what it is. Because clarity is better than cute sometimes. A lot of the time. Especially when it comes to selling your stuff.
Dave Albano and Lauren Petrullo are some pretty dang smaht marketers that had a friendly competition going with their presentations. I liked Lauren's style better personally (likely because of the millennial woman factor).
Takeaway #7
Thanks Ryan Deiss, for confirming that email marketing STILL works.
I think it's a great idea to grow your list of dedicated followers before you start selling to them. Social media is a great place to acquire your community, but ultimately you don't need Zuckerberg, Musk, or anyone else owning ALL your content.
Create the community first, then work together to get everyone's needs met.
Takeaway #8
I clearly missed a few important details in this talk too. Bottom line is...
Even with all the AI tech out there, marketing is still a human selling to a human. Remember that, before you get frustrated at poor results from your efforts.
Takeaway #9
Now, let's get into some more AI ideas for you. Have you played with LinkedIn's Sales Navigator or even their free AI ad copy draft help? No, no worries, LinkedIn ads can be expensive and you want to make sure they're right for you.
The Sales Navigator stuff looks great, and there is a paywall. Assisted search does look nice and shiny to me over here. 😉
Unfortunately (or fortunately?), money can buy happiness with the ease paid versions of things brings. Have a strong opinion about that? Talk to me about it. I'd love to hear your take on it.
Even if you're feeling too broke to pay for the shiny AI bells, there are plenty of free ways to up-level your LinkedIn profile to get the attention you want. Let me know if you want me to go into details about this. Maybe I'll write another post going into detail about it if I get enough interest.
Final Takeaway
Now, here's what you've been really waiting for isn't it?
Here's the list of AI tools I trust are worth looking into. Thanks Roland for trying everything out.
And thanks to Kevin for the wonderful visual list of them all.
I'm likely to look into "Ghost" a little more. Which one would help your business?
Bottom Line
In a world where AI can do so much, it's more important than ever to show yourself being human. Take responsibility for mistakes. Don't pretend to have it all together. It's ok when it's not ok.
Are you interested in building a community of artists with at least a slight interest in calligraphy, lettering, and anything typography related where we can play and share all our brilliant creations and collaborations?
